Aki Takase is 78 years old now—she’s a Japanese jazz and avant-garde legend. She has been based in Germany for quite some time, so she’s basically part of the European scene.
Trivia: she is married to pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach, one of the European free jazz pioneers. Vincent von Schlippenbach (aka DJ IllVibe) is his son :)
I thought I’d heard the name before. I’ve been to Japan and have a love for it- the people, the history, the architecture, religion, sci fi/fantasy, whiskey … and of course, jazz.
