You might be the person who tips me over the edge with Jasmine Myra and I will check out the Czech group as well. The festival in Romania sounds fascinating. That’s where my wife is from and I really hope I can get there as a tourist someday to see some art and not just visit family.
Fikl Art Stage usually hosts several individual concerts over the summer; it’s more of a concert series than a festival, but it’s still a great place. And Romania has “exploded” with excellent jazz festivals over the past 15-20 years. Interestingly, many of them lean quite strongly toward the ECM sound, but there are also a few that follow younger, more trend-oriented bands. The village of Socolari is a story in itself—driving in feels surreal, like entering some kind of time capsule. I stayed in an old stone house converted into apartment-style accommodation. It was wonderful, and I can’t wait to go back, even if just for that one evening.
As usual, thank you for providing excellent recommendations.
